Zach Hyman
Zach Hyman's photographs are explorations in which, by pushing the boundaries of the photographic medium, he searches for new ways to understand what is real.
These are un-retouched and created in camera using reflective surfaces and various photographic techniques in order to distort and reinterpret ordinary objects and daily compositions. At times explosively colorful and playful, at others muddied and flat, the painterly depictions he creates aim to deconstruct what we tend to view as matters of fact. The drive behind his work could be read as an “anti tableau vivant” in which the viewer is invited to question her perception of “reality.” He attempts to breathe new life into standard forms of image making and presentation in order to provide himself and the viewer with an alternative possibility for personal existence.
